Dimitsana

Dimitsana is a traditional village, located in the heart of mountainous Arcadia in the Peloponnese. It is one of the most popular mountain destinations, as it combines picturesque, traditional elements with a rich natural environment.

Dimitsana has deep roots in antiquity from the time of Arcada and ancient writer Pausanias referred to the existence of the city in his writings. The historical centre includes traditional stone buildings, structures from the time of the Ottoman Empire and other historical attractions. Dimitsana played an important role in the Greek Revolution both because of its gunpowder mills and its important people, who were associated with the area. Dimitsana was the birthplace of great historical figures, such as Patriarchs Gregory V and Paleon Patron Germanos.

Dimitsana is located at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres and is surrounded by green slopes. It offers unique natural landscapes, with perhaps the most well-known being the gorge of Lousios.

Every visitor can visit many of the attractions of the area, such as the Library of Dimitsana, the Water & Power Museum, the Philosophou Monastery and many other traditional churches.

Dimitsana is also famous for its traditional Arcadian cuisine and local products. Every year it hosts traditional cultural events and activities.
